Development Diary
2025-07-08 (updated 2025-07-11)
All existing canvas data has been wiped. This was a necessary step to transition to a new data storage structure. From now on, we seek to preserve the data despite updates.
1. Shareable URLs for Every Canvas
Your canvases are no longer just sessions; they are now shareable destinations on the web.
2. Offline Mode & Sync
The platform should be significantly more reliable. You can check the connection status from the icon in the top bar. If your connection drops, the app will automatically send your offline changes to the server once the connection is restored.
3. New In-Canvas Guide Panel
Click the "Guide" link in the header to open an info panel on the left side of your screen. The panel stays open without interrupting your workflow, allowing you to read the instructions and try out commands on your canvas simultaneously. You can open and close the panel by clicking the "Guide" link (alternatively ctrl/cmd + g). You can also use Esc to close any active popup.
This version also includes a number of smaller fixes and improvements designed to make the experience smoother and more intuitive.
2025-06-23
All data will be lost as part of the transition to a new storage structure. This will take place at the end of the month at the earliest.
2025-06-19 (updated 2025-06-22)
A connection status icon has been added to the header:
Connected (green),
Disconnected (red),
Reconnecting (orange), or
Idle (grey). If the connection drops, a popup will let the user know. The service now does its best to stay connected whenever possible.
Offline changes are sent to the server after the connection has been re-established.
Entering a username is disabled. Logging into the canvas only requires entering the canvas name. All users are currently signed in under the username “gridpoet”.
